Abstract
This contribution seeks to close a research gap by examining how specialist knowledge on early Greek history (Indo-European linguistics, archaeology, historical scholarship) correlates with textbook knowledge from the period 1871 to the present day. The textbook is a construct and, particularly on account of its isolationist and territorially restricted perspective, it deviates considerably from the discourse within scholarship. From the perspective of memory culture, early Greek history appears to function as an instrument of fostering a specific social, biological and territorial identity.
